O-12-110 Add DME/Supplies to POC/VO

🎯 Purpose

To describe the process for entering DME/Supplies to the Plan of Care (POC) or a Verbal Order (VO). The individual plan of care MUST include the non-routine* supplies and durable medical equipment (DME) ** the client requires which are medically necessary for care, regardless if we are supplying the products.

Clinicians must add DME and Supplies to the POC in PointCare at the time of SOC/RCT/ROC. They may also be added in a VO outside of a visit as needed. They do not pull from the Physical Assessment automatically. Clinicians are unable to select supplies for requisition unless they have been added to the POC in PointCare.

Definitions:

*Non-routine supplies are items directly identifiable to an individual client furnished at the direction of the physician or allowed practitioner. Examples of non-routine supplies include, but are not limited to: dressings/advanced wound care products, I.V. supplies, ostomy supplies, catheter supplies, tracheostomy supplies, and syringes and needles.

**Durable medical equipment (DME) are equipment used for medical purposes, can be used repeatedly, and are typically useful for people who are sick or injured. Examples include, but are not limited to: diabetic/blood glucose supplies, oxygen equipment, wheelchairs, bath safety equipment, respiratory supplies, lifts, toileting equipment, support surfaces, grab bars/side rails/bed rails, communication devices, suction supplies, walkers, canes, hospital beds, pressure reduction supplies, crutches, orthotics, traction equipment, audio/visual support equipment, medical alert devices, medication dispensers, braces/splints, scooters, walking aides, infusion supplies, and prosthetics.
